Fishing on Sabine Lake has been steady over the past few weeks. Trout fishing has been good with fish being taken on live bait and topwater baits. Fish have been holding over shell and keying in on schools of mullet and shad. I look for Trout fishing to continue to improve throughout the summer and into the fall. Look for fish to keep moving towards the North end of Sabine Lake if we continue to get minimal rainfall throughout the summer.
Redfish are being caught in the lake and along the ship channel. The majority of the fish are being caught on live shrimp under a popping cork. There have been some fish being caught early in the morning along the banks on topwater. The best bait has been a Bone colored Skitterwalk. The redfishing should continue to improve through the summer and into the fall.
Flounder are being caught in the lake at the mouths of cuts and bayou’s. The best bait has been finger mullet fished on the bottom. There have been some fish being caught on gulp swimming mullet in white or chartreuse.
I anticipate catching numerous Ling and Triple tail around the short rigs in the next few months. Late summer and fall fishing is shaping up to be fantastic. Stay tuned for more reports and pictures
